Big Auckland Clean Up

Big Auckland Clean Up

The job of cleaning up Auckland is a big one. It will take some time and we know there are many Aucklanders who continue to need help and who want to help.

While there are significant issues that need to be dealt with by experts with specialists skills and where work is dangerous, many community and voluntary groups have been doing amazing mahi/work to help people who have been badly affected. Many people have already been doing their bit – whether it’s supporting their friends and family, volunteering with these groups or doing small-scale clean-ups in their local community.

Need help & want to help:

  • If you’re aware of local clean-up work that needs an Auckland Emergency Management response, please call 0800 222 200.
  • If there’s a non-urgent job where people could do with some volunteer help, you can register that with the Student Volunteer Army or call 0800 005 902.
  • You can volunteer with the Student Volunteer Army.

  • You can find a comprehensive list of other organisations offering ways to help through Volunteer Auckland.
  • You can go to your local board's Facebook page to find out about clean-up events happening in your community or elsewhere in Auckland where you can help out.
  • If you would like to provide financial support, you can donate to the Auckland Council Emergency Relief Fund.

Stay safe:

If you want to get stuck in straight away in your neighbourhood, that’s great. But please keep yourself safe.

  • Stay away from floodwaters, including flooded streams.
  • If parks or open spaces may have been contaminated with wastewater, then log it with Watercare
  • Don’t try to clear landslips yourself.  Please report blocked roads to Auckland Transport at 09 355 3553. Or other slips to Auckland Council on 09 301 0101.
  • Wear gloves and boots and don’t take any unnecessary risks.
  • If it’s a big job, log it with the council.
